Helping to maintain a skilled workforce and a competitive edge

Wider Skills offers a cost-effective way to keep your skills, knowledge and professional status up-to-date.

How it works

Many professional registrations require members to fulfil a certain number of hours of continual professional development (CPD) each year. Funding your work-based learning and development through a Wider Skills salary deduction scheme means you can spread the costs of training over the period of the course.

You can take part in job-related training such as NVQs, Diplomas and Certificates, either by attending a college or through distance learning, both full-time and part-time. As long as the activity is likely to be useful when performing your current duties then it can qualify as job-related training.

Normally, your employer will meet the full cost of the training or professional registration upfront, with you agreeing that your net salary will be reduced by an equivalent amount, spread over the term of your course or membership subscription.

Scheme benefits

  • Spread costs over a fixed term via salary deduction.
  • Scheme works with any training course, training centre and professional body.
  • Keep your skills and knowledge up-to-date.
  • Learning and development can count towards your CPD hours.
